SASRA authorisation checker
Review the three factors for a non-deposit-taking SACCO in Kenya.
Kenya · No sign-up · Calculated in your browser
Answer all three questions using your SACCO’s records. Choose “Not sure” where you need to check.
1. Non-withdrawable deposits
Trigger: KES 100 million or more.
2. Digital mobilisation
3. Members outside Kenya
This tool is an illustration calculated in your browser; nothing you enter is sent or stored. Your group’s own rules, your loan agreement and your regulator decide the real figures. SenteRail is software, not a lender, bank or adviser.
The three triggers
Under the Sacco Societies (Non-Deposit-Taking Business) Regulations, 2020, a non-deposit-taking SACCO carries on specified business when members’ non-withdrawable deposits equal or exceed KES 100 million, when it mobilises membership and share-capital subscription through digital or other electronic payment platforms, or when it does so from persons ordinarily resident outside Kenya.
Carrying on specified business needs SASRA’s written authorisation. Meeting any one trigger is enough; the three do not have to apply together.
What this checker does not do
It is a comparison of your answers with published triggers, not a legal opinion and not a SASRA determination. How your accounts classify non-withdrawable deposits, and how SASRA reads the digital and overseas triggers for your model, are questions to settle with your auditor, Kenya-qualified counsel or SASRA.
