UMRA licence renewal checklist
What to have ready before and during the UMRA renewal window — a general checklist, not a substitute for UMRA’s own application form.
Before the window opens (by ~1 October)
- Confirm your current licence's exact expiry date and issuing details.
- Gather your institution's updated governance and ownership information — UMRA's licensing framework expects this to be current, not just what was filed at initial licensing.
- Reconcile your savings, shares, and loan books so the figures you submit match your own ledger — a mismatch between what's reported and what's recorded is the kind of thing that slows a renewal down.
- Confirm whether any prior UMRA reporting obligations (quarterly returns, governance attestations) are current — outstanding filings are a reasonable thing for a regulator to check before renewing a licence.
During the window (1 October – 31 December)
- Submit the renewal application at least 90 days before your licence's 31 December expiry — for most institutions, that means acting early in the window rather than close to year-end.
- Confirm the current fee schedule and payment process directly with UMRA — see the full renewal guide for why this page doesn't quote specific fee figures.
- Keep a copy of everything submitted, and a record of the submission date, for your own file.
This is a general checklist, not UMRA's own form
This page describes what a renewal generally involves based on how the licence cycle works; it is not a reproduction of UMRA's own application form or a substitute for it. Get the current, authoritative renewal requirements and forms directly from UMRA before submitting.
